Put your phone away for an hour each day to be fully present—whether you’re taking a walk, journaling, or watching the sunset. Are you addicted to your digital gadgets? I’m guilty. Do you find yourself reaching for the phone in the morning before you place your feet on the floor? What’s probably worse is having your phone in your hand as the last thing you do before you turn in for bed. You need to set aside at least 15 minutes before your head hits the pillow without your eyes on your screen.
Studies have shown that using your phone right before bed can negatively impact sleep quality. The blue light emitted by smartphones can interfere with the production of melatonin, the hormone responsible for regulating sleep. This can make it harder to fall asleep and reduce the overall quality of sleep.
Additionally, engaging with stimulating content, such as social media or work emails, can activate your brain. This makes it more difficult to wind down and relax. A Cleveland Clinic article found that individuals who used electronic devices before bed reported poorer sleep and increased levels of daytime sleepiness.
